Better products mix several widths and slightly different colors in each bundle, so the finished roof does not look stamped. Lower-quality lines can look uniform or shiny, especially from a second-story window.
Color and aging

Where composite shake fits, and where it does not
It works well on steep, visible roofs where the shake texture shows: hill-country style homes, ranch houses with big gables, homes with stone or timber accents around Paradise or Springtown. It is less suited to low-slope sections, which need a different roofing material. Composite shakes are also much lighter than real slate or tile, so framing reinforcement is rarely needed.
